Historical notes
Norman Frisby was a planter in Jefferson Co., Mississippi when he decided to expand his holdings to Tensas Parish, LA. He made his first land purchases, from John E. Hall, jointly with his business partner David A. Griffing. Later, Frisby made land purchases on his own from the Benjamin & Hynes business firm, Robert Chew, and Orlando Flowers. His land purchases eventually totaled 30 to 40 thousand acres. In 1855, Frisby moved his family from MS to his new estate in Tensas Parish, LA. There, he erected an 8-room brick house and began building a new mansion home which was never completed.

- Norman Frisby attempted to build the largest plantation mansion in Lousiana, but never finished it due to debt, the challenging weather, and the Civil War. His project later became known as "Frisby's Folly."
